King Mo explains distraction in midst of Rampage Jackson fight

This past weekend, MMA veteran Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal stepped into the Bellator MMA cage with MMA legend Rampage Jackson in Rosemont, IL. The fight was a rather dominant one for King Mo, who stated before the fight that he planned to use his wrestling to dominate Jackson, who weighed in nearly 50 pounds heavier than King Mo.

With that being said, a time came in the second round when Jackson was landing strikes, and it appeared as though he may be on his way to a stoppage win over Lawal. ‘King Mo’ rallied between rounds however, and ultimately secured the win, avenging his loss to Jackson two years ago.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, King Mo spoke about a rather unusual distraction in the crowd:

“When we were against the cage, a fight broke out and I saw the crowd stand up, looking to the left,” Lawal told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “And I was trying to look at the fight. I don’t know what was wrong with me.”

“I’m always like that,” Lawal said. “There are times when i’ll be fighting and ill see somebody in the crowd and I’ll be like, ‘Oh, that’s so and so.’”

The situation Lawal is referring to occurred just moments before momentum began to swing Jackson’s way and the MMA legend began to land strikes of his own.

“I lost focus,” Lawal said. “That’s on me. I can’t blame the crowd. This was me, I lost focus. He got me. He hit me with a few good shots. I was never close to getting finished. I was stunned, I was overwhelmed, but I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I’m done for.’”

Fortunately, the fight in the crowd did not result in Lawal losing the fight!
