BREAKING | Nate Diaz returns, faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 230
As we anticipate the likely announcement of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor any day now, a new and surprising fight has come up.
Recently earning the biggest win of his career in his big rematch with the former champion Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier has already inked his next fight. And to the surprise of surely everyone, it will come against Nate Diaz in UFC 230’s co-main event on November 3rd according to the LA Times.
If Diaz was ever to return to the Octagon, it was believed that it would only be against McGregor for a big money trilogy fight. Either that or some other kind of big money fight anyway.
Diaz hasn’t fought since August 2016 when he last fought McGregor to a majority decision loss.
Meanwhile, Poirier has been on an absolute tear having gone 4-1 (1 NC) since then and currently rides a three-fight winning streak that consists of all finishes via KO/TKO.
With the absence of Tony Ferguson due to injury, Poirier’s continued success has propelled him possibly over the former interim champion in terms of title opportunities as even the current champion, Nurmagomedov has mentioned his name on several occasions when being asked who he would like to fight if not McGregor.
Diaz jumping in now gives him a possibility to leapfrog over everyone with a win over “The Diamond”.
And despite it having yet to be made official between Nurmagomedov and McGregor, this fight being made just makes it feel all the more likely.
Diaz vs Poirier is expected to officially be announced by the UFC tomorrow at their 25th-anniversary press conference.
