Former UFC interim lightweight title challenger Kevin Lee (17-3 MMA) believes he is the man who will eventually dethrone current 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, if a bout with “The Eagle” fails to come to fruition “The Motown Phenom” has a solid backup plan in the form of former lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz.

“The Stockton Slugger”, Diaz (19-11 MMA), has not stepped foot inside the octagon since suffering a controversial majority decision loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August of 2016.

With that said, Diaz is apparently considering a return to the cage at UFC 227 which takes place August 4 live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

If Kevin Lee has his way, he will be the man to welcome back Nate Diaz to the octagon.

“I’m going to do a little bit of traveling, see the world a bit myself and kind of expand some more of that life to experience, which is just going to make me a better fighter,” Lee told SiriusXM’s “MMA Tonight” with hosts Miesha Tate and Sean O’Connell. “Coming back? I don’t know. I think the Khabib fight is the right one to make, but the Nate one is out there to be had. I know Dustin and Alvarez, they’re getting in it again, as they rightfully should. But we’ll how this thing shakes out. I’m going to turn my focus onto Nate.”

Kevin Lee is coming off an impressive fifth-round TKO victory over Edson Barboza in the headliner of last month’s UFC Fight Night 128 event.

“The Motown Phenom” was able to dominate the feared Brazilian striker for the majority of their fight before eventually putting Barboza away in the final round.
