Nate Diaz issued big fine and ordered to do community service for UFC 202 water bottle war
Nate Diaz was served a stiff punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday.
According to the NAC documents reported by MMA Fighting, Diaz was served a $50,000 fine and ordered to do 50 hours of community service for the water bottle throwing incident at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference. Diaz and the commission on behalf of NAC executive director Bob Bennett agreed to the punishment.
Back in August, team Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor started their war before the fight took place as the two opposing sides launched various objects across the press conference room, which included water bottles, energy drink cans, and rolls of tape.
In October, McGregor was served a fine of $75,000, which was 2.5 percent of his $3 million UFC 202 fight purse. In addition to the fine, McGregor was also ordered to do 50 hours of community service and participate in an anti-bullying campaign valued at another $75,000. Diaz’s $50,000 fine reflects McGregor’s 2.5 percent fine as the Stockton fighter earned $2 million for his UFC 202 fight purse.
McGregor has not agreed to pay the fine and has filed a notice for judicial review with the Clark County civil court as “The Notorious” wants to challenge the NAC’s punishment. Since receiving the fine, McGregor has stated that he does not want to fight in the state of Nevada again.
Conor McGregor has fought once following UFC 202 in the state of New York but is not eligible to fight in Nevada until his matters with the NAC are resolved. Jurisdictions outside of the state of Nevada still allow athletes to compete as McGregor was never issued a suspension.
Nate Diaz has stated that he is in no rush to get back to competition and is waiting to settle his feud with Conor McGregor in their trilogy fight.
