Nate Diaz in No Rush for Conor McGregor Rubber Match: “I think I beat him twice and it’s 2-0”

By Tom Taylor - August 31, 2016

Back in March, in the main event of UFC 196, Nate Diaz shocked the world by ending Conor McGregor’s streak with a second-round submission. Several months later, in the main event of UFC 202, McGregor evened the score, defeating Diaz via majority decision in a truly unforgettable fight.

Given that the pair is now 1-1 across two incredible battles, logic would seem to scream “rubber match!” Given that both fighters asked for a third fight in their post-fight Octagon interviews with Joe Rogan, the likelihood of a rubber match seems even higher.

Apparently, however, Diaz’s feelings on the issue have changed. In a recent appearance on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, the Stockton slugger stated that he’s actually not particularly interested in another do-over with his Irish rival.

“It’s whatever to me,” Diaz said on the show. “I won the fight. I’m not jumping for joy for round three. I think I beat him twice and it’s 2-0, as far as I’m concerned. If they’re gonna want to do it down the road, I don’t know. I’m not in a hurry.”

Instead of campaigning for a rematch, Diaz apparently plans to spend the next few months relaxing. Considering the scale of his UFC 202 payday, he certainly has the resources to do so.

So, do you think we’ll get McGregor vs. Diaz 3, or is it time to put this historic rivalry to bed? Sound off, PENN nation!
