Nate Diaz shuts down Conor McGregor trilogy fight

For the first time in ages, Nate Diaz has opened up on his fighting career. What will likely come as a disappointment to many fighting fans is that he’s apparently not interested in a trilogy against former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN, Diaz spoke about a possible trilogy fight with McGregor, and he said he’s no longer interested in a matchup with “The Notorious” because he’s only focused on winners.

Nate Diaz famously beat Conor McGregor at UFC 196 on short notice in a fight that took place in the welterweight division. His stock and popularity skyrocketed following the win.

The two would have a rematch later in 2016 at UFC 202 where McGregor won by majority decision. During his interview with Helwani, Diaz said he won’t say he won the second fight, but he definitely didn’t lose it.

As Nate Diaz prepares for a welterweight fight against Anthony Pettis, he shut down the possibility of going back to the lightweight division because he feels he has beaten all the top contenders at 155 pounds.

Back in March during a Q&A session in Chicago, McGregor spoke about a possible trilogy fight with Nate Diaz and said since Diaz gave him a rematch, he has to give him a rematch. McGregor stated emphatically: “I owe him the trilogy and the trilogy will happen.”

Now that Nate Diaz has said goodbye to the lightweight division, he sounds focused on getting the top fights and most exciting matchups in the welterweight division. Diaz pointed out that McGregor has been losing lately, and claimed that a fight against a “loser” doesn’t intrigue him.
