Nate Diaz slapped with lawsuit seeking over $1 million in damages
UFC star Nate Diaz may now be in the most costly fight of his career.
On Wednesday, TMZ reported that the Stockton native had a lawsuit filed against him by The Ballengee Group, who previously represented Diaz as an agent.
According to TMZ, “The Ballengee Group filed a lawsuit in District Court in Dallas claiming they had worked with Nate since 2014 and hammered out deals on several big fights including Rafael Dos Anjos, Michael Johnson and the first McGregor fight at UFC 196.”
According to the article, The Ballengee Group claims that their relationship fell apart shortly after they finalized the deal for Diaz’s rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 202, which took place in August of last year. The group claims that Diaz “unexpectedly” fired them shortly after the rematch was finalized and Diaz has failed to pay them their cut of the deal. UFC 202 was talked about as being one of the highest UFC pay-per-view events in the company’s history, although the numbers do not have to be disclosed by the UFC.
Attorney Jason Friedman filed the lawsuit with The Ballengee Group seeking over $1 million in damages.
Nate Diaz’s last fight was at UFC 202 against Conor McGregor. Holding a 19-11 professional MMA record, Diaz’s stock shot up after submitting McGregor in their first fight at UFC 196, which took place in March of last year. Since the pair of McGregor fights, Diaz has stated that he will only return to the Octagon for the right fight and for the right price. Diaz has turned down fights offered to him from the UFC against former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and contender Tony Ferguson.
TMZ attempted to reach Diaz for comment on the situation but failed to get a response.
