Nate Diaz Once Again Suggests he Didn’t Lose Rematch with Conor McGregor

By Tom Taylor - September 14, 2016

Back in March, in the main event of UFC 196, Nate Diaz scored a shocking and decisive submission win over the streaking Conor McGregor. He did so as a last-minute replacement for the injured Rafael Dos Anjos, having had less than two weeks to prepare.

Several months later, in the main event of August’s UFC 202, Diaz and McGregor went at it again. This time around, however, McGregor came out on top. After five, frenzied rounds of action, the Irishman walked away with a hard-fought, much less decisive, majority decision victory.

In the weeks after Diaz and McGregor’s rematch, Diaz has suggested on several occasions that he feels he won the rematch with McGregor, which would make him 2-0 across their two bouts.

On Tuesday night, Diaz took to Instagram to make this suggestion again – albeit subtly.

You only lose when you lose..

In the photo he posted, Diaz can be seen holding a painting of the fight-ending rear-naked choke he wrapped around McGregor’s neck in their first fight. The photo is accompanied by the caption “you only lose when you lose…”

This caption, of course, seems to suggests that Diaz considers McGregor’s submission loss legitimate, and his razor-thin decision loss to McGregor much less legitimate. In fact, he doesn’t even seem to consider it a loss. Considering he’s estimated to have walked away from that second fight $13 million richer, he might be right.

Having evened the score with Diaz, McGregor now seems to have to choices: return to featherweight to defend his title against interim champion Jose Aldo, or take on Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title – probably at UFC 205 in New York City this November.

Diaz, meanwhile, seems content to sit and wait until another big-money fight comes his way. That money fight could well be a trilogy bout with McGregor at lightweight.

How did you score McGregor vs. Diaz 2? Sound off, PENN nation!
