At UFC 241, Nate Diaz will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon for a welterweight fight with Anthony Pettis. From the sounds of it, this is the division he plans to call home for the remainder of his career. Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday, Nate Diaz closed the door on a return to the lightweight division. He claimed that, having defeated Conor McGregor in the Octagon and slapped reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov during an infamous altercation outside it, he’s already conquered the weight class.

At long last, Nate Diaz is set to return to the Octagon. The fan favorite is scheduled to fight former UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis in a welterweight showdown at UFC 241 on August 17. The UFC is already doing its part to promote this dynamite welterweight scrap, having recently published a Nate Diaz highlight reel on social media.

The biggest change, however, seems to be unrelated to the card, as long absent lightweight star Nate Diaz has finally been ejected from the UFC rankings. In terms of UFC St. Petersburg related changes, Alistair Overeem made a slight climb at heavyweight on the strength of his rousing TKO defeat of Alexey Oleynik.

Nate Diaz is definitely not a fan of UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, or former champ Conor McGregor. Late on Sunday night, he took a shot at both of them in a single Twitter post. Diaz’s Tweet included an image taken shortly after he defeated McGregor in 2016, along with some added text that makes it very clear how he feels about sambo, Nurmagomedov’s martial art of choice.

As the landscape of the UFC’s lightweight division begins to start taking shape with recent fight announcements, there might be a high-profile trilogy fight coming for the fans. During his Q&A session in Chicago, Conor McGregor spoke about a third fight with his rival, Nate Diaz. It’s been over two years since Nate Diaz and McGregor fought, with the last fight going the way of McGregor’s by majority decision at UFC 202. Now that Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway are fighting for the interim title at UFC 236 and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Al Iaquinta are scheduled to face each other, the path has been cleared for a trilogy between Diaz and McGregor.

According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, fan favorite lightweight contenders Nate Diaz and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone recently discussed a potential rematch — but not at lightweight. Okamoto says Cowboy and Diaz chatted about a rematch backstage at UFC 235. Diaz suggested he was up for it, but so long as there was no weight cut involved. That apparently means the fight would have to occur in the 185-pound middleweight division — a weight class neither man has competed in before.

And apparently, he had words with fan favorite lightweight Nate Diaz too…

Unfortunately, Poirier ultimately withdrew from the fight with an injured hip — although he recently divulged there may have been more to the story. Speaking with ESPN on Monday, Dustin Poirier was asked what he’d say to Nate Diaz if given the opportunity. The top lightweight contender, who battles Max Holloway for interim gold at UFC 236 on April 13, did not hold back.
