REPORT: Nate Diaz offered interim title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov
While Conor McGregor revealed this week that he could very well be returning to the Octagon after Christmas, rather than taking 10 months off like UFC President Dana White stated, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson have continued to talk trash at one another on social media.
Nurmagomedov revealed recently that an interim lightweight title fight between he & Ferguson was all but finalized for UFC 209. While both men maintained on social media that the ball was in the other’s court, Ferguson revealed this week that he plans to hold out for a larger contract from the UFC. According to a report from ‘The Line: With Anna Jane Kesington’, Nate Diaz has now been offered the interim lightweight title fight against Nurmagomedov.
She states:
“Nate Diaz has been offered an interim title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209. The fight was originally offered to Tony Ferguson, but he was asking for too much money.”
Diaz of course is coming off of a pair of fights with Conor McGregor. In the pair’s first meeting, Diaz stepped in on just two weeks notice and handed the Irish superstar his first loss in the UFC. In the pair’s rematch in August, McGregor was able to avenge the loss by picking up a majority decision win.
Recently, following the news of McGregor being granted his boxing license in California, Nate Diaz revealed that he was looking to get out of MMA and make the jump to boxing.
Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
