Is Jon Jones really that big of a trend setter? The former UFC champion was stripped of his title and suspended indefinitely after he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run car accident. Reports say that a car rented in the Jones’ name crashed into another car, which had a pregnant female in it, then fled the scene.

Witnesses say they saw a man matching his description fleeing the scene. Jones later turned himself in to police when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Now, another professional athlete has been involved in something similar. New England Patriots’ Brandon Spikes was released from the team earlier this week after police announced there was an investigation going on in involving a car registered to his name.

Excerpt from USA Today’s Lindsay H. Jones‘ article:

Per a statement, police said they found a Mercedes Maybach abandoned in a median on Interstate-495 near Foxborough, Mass., near the Patriots’ facilities early Sunday morning. The car had front-end damage, and a representative from the OnStar navigation system told officers the driver had reported hitting a deer. No deer was found at the scene, police said.

Shortly after responding to the report of the abandoned Maybach at 3:30 a.m. ET, police were also called by the occupants of a Nissan Murano, who reported they had been rear-ended by an unknown vehicle in the same area of I-495 Sunday. The three occupants of that car, an adult man and woman along with a 12-year-old boy, were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Hmmmm. No connection to the two incidents have been established yet, but the search is ongoing.
