Nick Diaz gets hit with two additional charges
Nick Diaz’s legal situation has gotten amply worse.
According to a report from MMAjunkie, the former Strikeforce welterweight champ and UFC welterweight title challenger has been hit with two new charges in an amended complaint filed by prosecutors from the Clark County District Attorney’s office. They are: “an additional felony count of battery constituting domestic violence by strangulation, and felony battery domestic violence resulting in substantial bodily harm.”
Diaz was originally charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery, which means he now faces a total of three felony charges and one misdemeanour.
These charges stem from an incident on May 24 in Las Vegas, during which Diaz is alleged to have assaulted a woman who claims to have been romantically involved with him. The alleged victim, whose name has been protected, claims Diaz attacked her after she accused him of cheating. Those on the Diaz side of this case, however, have maintained his innocence throughout, while a friend of Diaz has claimed she was stalking the fighter.
Ross Goodman, the attorney representing Diaz, said the following in a statement released to MMAjunkie:
“We were surprised that the state filed an amended complaint in court this morning given that there is no new evidence that would warrant adding charges. Regardless, we are confident that that truth will come to light vindicating Mr. Diaz after a thorough cross-examination exposing (the alleged victim’s) inconsistent and contradictory allegations.”
Following his initial arrest, Nick Diaz was released on $18,000 bond. He has been out since then, but is ordered not to make any contact with the alleged victim.
