Recent charges against Nick Diaz have been dropped
In more recent times, most of the action for the Diaz brothers has come outside of an MMA cage rather than inside of one. And it hasn’t been the good kind.
Late in May, it was reported that Nick Diaz had been arrested on the count of a domestic violence altercation. The charges were that of felony domestic battery by strangulation, along with a misdemeanor of domestic battery.
Diaz would go on to claim that he was ‘framed’ in said situation before getting slapped with two more charges. Those consisting of an additional felony count of battery constituting domestic violence by strangulation, and felony battery domestic violence resulting in substantial bodily harm. Resulting in three total felonies and one misdemeanor.
However, ESPN has now confirmed that all charges on Diaz have been dropped by the state of Nevada. This happened just hours before Diaz’ preliminary hearing.
Diaz’ attorney Ross Goodman spoke on the news.
“[Diaz is] grateful the District Attorney’s office was fair and thoughtful in reviewing this case based on the evidence.
I trust that the ultimate dismissal of all charges with prejudice will be viewed as total vindication for Nick and clears his name from being associated with such horrific but false allegations,”
Also according to Goodman, the accuser’s detailed versions of the situation were inconsistent and she didn’t have the injuries that her allegations portrayed.
As for Diaz’ fighting career, he has been teasing coming back through this whole ordeal and now if he’s serious, he will be able to.
The 35-year old Stockton, California native hasn’t fought since 2015 when he initially suffered a unanimous decision loss to former middleweight king Anderson Silva.
Although the former Strikeforce welterweight champion’s last fight was a good while ago, his last win was even further as it came in 2011 when he defeated BJ Penn by unanimous decision at UFC 137.
