Officials: Chael Sonnen will remain in Metamoris 4 headliner

By Chris Taylor - July 1, 2014

To say Chael Sonnen has had a rough week would be an understatement.

The self-proclaimed “American Gangstar” was released of his fighter/broadcaster duties with the UFC and FOX on Monday, this following a pair of failed drug tests that were administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) prior to Sonnen’s scheduled bout with Vitor Belfort, which would have occurred at this weekends UFC 175 event in Las Vegas.

Many thought the news of Sonnen’s recent failed drug tests would also spell an end to his scheduled ‘Metamoris 4’ headlining bout with Andre Galvao. But, according to the Metamoris official twitter account, that is not the case:

@Dusty_Cole: “@ralekgracie @MetamorisPro Ralek — Is @sonnench still on your card? & What is Metamoris’ stance re PEDs, testing, commissions, etc. Tks

@MetamorisPro: “@DustyCole @sonnench Yes, the only test Chael should be concerned about @MetamorisPro 4 is of his technique. He is going against the odds!

The grappling event takes place August 9 live from Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California.

The Metamoris 4 main card includes the following contests:

  • Andre Galvao vs. Chael Sonnen
  • Rodrigo Medeiros vs. Saulo Ribeiro
  • Josh Barnett vs. Dean Lister
  • Keenan Cornelius vs. Vinny Magalhaes
  • Kit Dale vs. Gary Tonon
