Cosmo Alexandre takes aim at MMA fans insulting Sage Northcutt

The man who knocked out Sage Northcutt last weekend is disgusted by the slew of insults and hate messages that have been directed towards his fallen opponent.

Cosmo Alexandre, Sage Northcutt

Brazilian kickboxing specialist Cosmo Alexandre needed just 29 seconds to brutally knock out Sage Northcutt last Friday on the main card of ONE: Enter the Dragon. The video of Northcutt falling face first onto the canvas went viral, with many calling it an early frontrunner for 2019 Knockout of the Year. According to Urijah Faber, Northcutt’s coach at Team Alpha Male, his young pupil suffered up to 30 broken bones due to the KO. It was a bad knockout loss, there’s no other way to put it.

”When the fight was over and he got back up his face was already swollen, and that’s something unusual,” Alexandre said in an interview with MMAFighting.com. “I had a feeling that it wasn’t 100 percent. I left the ring and went backstage to see the doctor, he was in a different room, but I decided not to get in there because there was too many people out there. When they brought a stretcher, I knew something serious had happened.”

After the loss, Sage Northcutt posted pictures of his recovery on his Instagram. Unfortunately, a segment of MMA fans have gone onto Northcutt’s Instagram to trash him for the loss, and many have even tagged Alexandre in their posts. The Brazilian isn’t having any of that.

“When I got back to the hotel there were a lot of messages online, people talking trash at him. I honestly don’t know why,” Alexandre said. “I can’t understand why people hate him so much. I don’t know if it’s because he’s good looking, like a model. I can’t understand, and I don’t like that. I asked people to stop tagging me on those messages.”

During his UFC run, fans rode Sage Northcutt and fellow fighter Paige VanZant hard, believing they were both given big pushes by the UFC brass because of their good looks and not because of their fighting skills. Online harassment is not something Northcutt hasn’t seen before, but knocking him while he’s at his lowest is something that gives MMA fans a bad reputation, and hopefully with Cosmo Alexandre condemning these kinds of comments, the online vitriol will stop soon.
