Sage Northcutt set to make ONE Championship debut in May

By Drake Riggs - February 26, 2019

From the UFC to ONE Championship… A transition that multiple big name fighters are starting to find themselves going through.

Sage Northcutt

One of the more recent ones being “Super” Sage Northcutt (11-2) who came as a bit of a surprise to see departing the UFC as they were so fond of him in his still young and developing career.

However, a deal couldn’t be reached between the two parties and now Northcutt finds his new fighting home to be on the other side of the world.

At a ONE Championship media gathering in Los Angeles (via MMA Fighting), Northcutt would make the announcement that his promotional debut will come on May 17 in Singapore when he takes on world-renowned kickboxer, Cosmo Alexandre (7-1 in MMA, 69-19 in KB).

The bout will take place in the welterweight division (185-pounds under ONE’s rules).

For Alexandre, it will be his ONE Championship debut as well… In MMA, that is.

His last MMA fight came in 2016 when he picked up a TKO win over
Musu Nuertiebieke. All but Alexandre’s last two MMA bouts came in Bellator.

As for his most recent kickboxing outings, they both came in ONE Championship last year as Alexandre went 1-1 with a knockout win over Elliot Compton followed by a knockout loss to Nieky Holzken.

Northcutt will be coming into ONE Championship riding a very solid three-fight winning streak that consists of wins over Zak Ottow, Thibault Ghouti, and Michel Quinones.

When it comes to experience, that’s clearly in favor of the 36-year-old Alexandre who has been competing professionally since 2004. The 22-year old Sage Northcutt didn’t start his career until a whole decade later.

If one thing’s for sure, it’s that it should be a very interesting striking battle while it lasts.
