EXCLUSIVE | Jorge Masvidal expects title shot after "devastating" Wonderboy

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017

This weekend, on the main card of the stacked UFC 217, Jorge Masvidal will step into the cage with two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. While Wonderboy is an incredibly dangerous opponent, Masvidal plans to devastate him when the cage door closes. “I got respect for his skillset and his heart,” Masvidal said on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “He definitely took some shots against [Tyron] Woodley in both fights, that a lesser man would’ve gave into. He fought through that. Through the guillotine, through the right hands, the abuse that he took, you know? I don’t think he’s a walk in the park or northing like that. He has a skillset, but come Saturday, I’m gonna devastate him.”

Jake Shields Thinks Georges St-Pierre is Too Talented Not to Find a Way to Win

Justin Golightly - November 2, 2017

At UFC 129, Georges St-Pierre successfully defended his UFC welterweight title for the sixth time against one of the best grapplers in MMA, Jake Shields. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion has wins over Robbie Lawler, Demian Maia, and even Tyron Woodley, but he wasn’t able to beat St-Pierre that night. Six years later, Shields helped St-Pierre prepare for his huge comeback fight against Michael Bisping. He recently talked in-depth about the match-up from an insider perspective and gave his prediction for the fight. “[Georges St-Pierre]’s a martial artist, so he’s always trying to grow. He didn’t take four years to just party, film movies and cruise around, he was still training pretty much every day, he was coming to New York, you know, I think he was going out and working boxing as well – actually, I know he had a guy from Toronto who was a boxer, Jorge, was working with him as well. So, he was constantly learning and expanding new skills, so definitely. Plus, he’s bigger now, he’s probably put on 10 pounds of muscle. He’s still going to be smaller than Bisping, but he has that extra weight which should help.”

EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington explains why Tyron Woodley needs him

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017

After dominating Demian Maia to a unanimous decision, and setting the MMA community on fire with a heated post-fight speech, Colby Covington believes he’s ready for a title fight with welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. And while Woodley has been dismissive of this possibility, Covington believes the champ needs him far more than he knows. “It only makes sense,” Covington said of his possible title shot on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “Me and Tyron Woodley for the world championship, first quarter next year in St. Louis, Missouri. Tyron Woodley needs me. Tyron Woodley is not a likeable guy, he fights like shit, he’s boring, no one wants to see him fight unless he’s fighting a guy like me who a lot of people hate. All of Brazil hates me. You know, so he needs me. He needs a bad guy where people are going to team up on his side and actually believe in him and want to root for him because no one wants to root for Tyron Woodley, that guy’s not a draw, he’s a joke. He needs Colby “Chaos” Covington versus Tyron Woodley in St. Louis, first quarter of next year.”

EXCLUSIVE | Emil Meek responds to Kamaru Usman's "bullsh*t" claims, will show up to fight at UFC 219

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017

Last month, it was announced that Norway’s Emil Meek will be taking on 11th-ranked UFC welterweight Kamaru Usman at UFC 219. Shortly after this fight was announced, however, Usman began suggesting that Meek might not show up, and that the UFC was attempting to book Colby Covington as his replacement opponent. When Covington denied these claims, Usman accused him of ducking. Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio, Meek reiterated that, despite Usman’s claims, he still has every intention of showing up to fight at UFC 219, and that he finds Usman’s ducking accusations of Covington a little strange.

EXCLUSIVE | Jorge Masvidal on Colby Covington controversy: he did something right

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017

Last weekend, moments after taking out former welterweight title challenger Demian Maia, Colby Covington unleashed a fiery post-fight callout of Tyron Woodley. During this callout of the champ, Covington also referred to Brazil as a “a dump,” and its people as “filthy animals.” These remarks generated a tidal wave of controversy. In the opinion of Covington’s good friend and training partner Jorge Masvidal, however, this controversy has been a little overblown. “What was he supposed to say?” Masvidal queried on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “‘I love Brazil, I love you guys’ like every other fake fucking fighter that goes over there and says that, though they got spit on, pushed, shoved and they chanted all types of shit? The guy actually spoke from the heart and he gets crucified for it.”

Mickey Gall has already picked a name to call out after fight at UFC 217

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017

Mickey Gall seems to be as famous for his post-fight callouts as he is for his fights themselves. That, after all, is how he earned high-profile scraps with pro wrestling superstar CM Punk and popular prospect Sage Northcutt. Gall’s next fight will occur on the undercard of UFC 217 this weekend, when he will take on Randy Brown. Speaking to Ariel Helwani at the UFC 217 media day this week, he divulged that he’s already got another name to call out if he wins this fight.

Justin Golightly - November 1, 2017

If it’s attention Colby Covington wanted, attention he got. He took out former UFC welterweight title challenger Demian Maia, trashed Brazil, called out Tyron Woodley, and later spoke out against American Top Team co-founder Ricardo Liborio. Ben Saunders, fellow welterweight and ATT member, didn’t take too kindly to any of Covington’s comments. Matter of fact, he got super heated and decided to get some stuff off his chest. This resulted in a profanity-laced video that would make any bleep button sound like a Morse code distress message.  “Killa B” Ben Saunders with an emotionally charged message for Colby Covington. https://t.co/UMUtglv0Xi pic.twitter.com/pepuWQY5WS

VIDEO | Conor McGregor Says UFC Must Become 'True Partners' With Him For Next Fight

Justin Golightly - November 1, 2017

It seems like forever since Conor McGregor dominated Eddie Alvarez at UFC’s history Madison Square Garden debut, then hoisted two world titles above his head. Infamously screaming that the double champ does whatever he wants, McGregor went on to prove just that by boxing Floyd Mayweather. Even losing, McGregor catapulted his already gargantuan brand to new heights, while pocketing more cash than he’s ever had before. It left us all wondering just what he would do next. Tony Ferguson seems to be the front-runner in all of this, but Conor McGregor has some familiar demands. “We’ll see. We’re currently in contract negotiations. There’s a couple of opponents, of course, different sports now in play with the boxing game also clawing to get me in. So, we’re in the contract negotiation stage. They’ve got to entice me now, because I came from a billion dollar fight. They’ve got to entice me with something. I want equity, I want ownership, I want partnered, I want to be true partners with the UFC similar to the way I was with the Floyd [Mayweather] fight.”
