UFC 196 Results: Vitor Miranda defeats Marcelo Guimaraes via TKO

A middleweight bout between Vitor Miranda (12-4 MMA) and Marcelo Guimaraes (9-2-1 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC 196 preliminary card in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Miranda opens up with back-to-back head kicks. Guimaraes pushes forward and presses Vitor up against the fence. Marcelo is working hard for a takedown but Miranda is not having it. The fighters scramble and Guimaraes winds up in top position. Miranda gets back and they battle in the clinch. The referee steps in and forces the fighters to break. Miranda with a body kick. Good leg kick returned by Guimaraes and he follows that up with some solid shots. Marcelo is working for another takedown. Good elbows from Vitor while Marcelo tries to lock up his legs. The fighters break and then exchange leg kicks. Nice jab by Miranda. Guimaraes returns fire with a leg kick. Good combination before the end of round one by Miranda.
UFC 196 Results: Darren Elkins defeats Chas Skelly via decision

A featherweight bout between Darren Elkins (20-5 MMA) and Chas Skelly (15-2 MMA) kicked off the UFC 196 prelims on Fox Sports 1. Round one begins and Skelly lands a good shot to the body and then a big left hand. Elkins grabs a hold of Skelly and presses him up against the fence. Good knees and elbows by Elkins from the clinch. Skelly breaks free and lands some big shots on Elkins. Darren is bleeding but lands a takedown. Skelly grabs a leg and starts attempting a heel hook. It’s deep but Elkins breaks free. Another good leg lock attempt by Skelly but Darren is able to fight it off. They are back to their feet and Elkins lands a front kick and follows up with some great uppercuts. Skelly clinches up but it is Darren who is landing the better knees from the position. They separate and Skelly lands a good hook before being pressed up against the fence by Elkins. That is how round one ends.
UFC 196 Results: Diego Sanchez defeats Jim Miller via decision

A lightweight bout between Diego Sanchez (26-8 MMA) and Jim Miller (25-8 MMA) capped off the UFC 196 Fight Pass prelims in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Sanchez charges forward and shoots in for a leg. Miller shakes Diego off and lands a step-in elbow. Miller misses with a left hand. Diego misses with a right. Miller lands a straight left and Sanchez replies with a body kick. Good combination from Miller. Diego responds with a kick to the body. Good counter right hook scores for Miller. Diego shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Jim is trying to setup a submission but Diego postures up and starts landing punches from the top. Nice hard shots to the body by Sanchez. Diego moves to half guard and lands some decent elbows to close out round one.
UFC 196 Results: Jason Saggo defeats Justin Salas via TKO in round 1

A lightweight tilt between Jason Saggo (11-2 MMA) and Justin Salas (12-7 MMA) served as the second bout of tonight’s UFC 196 card in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Saggo opens up with a body kick followed by an inside leg kick. Salas presses forward with a left hand that is partially blocked. Saggo throws a hook kick but it misses and he gets taken down by Salas for his efforts. Saggo working for a submission from his back and eventually sweeps Salas and winds up in top position. Good elbows from Saggo who is now working in side control. Elbows and hammer fists from the top by Saggo. He is searching for an armbar but Salas defends. Saggo moves to the back of Salas and sinks in one hook. He gets both hooks in and starts pounding away on Salas. The ref steps in and it is all over!

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor has a tough weight cut when dropping to featherweight. In a recent article we compared McGregor’s size prior to his fight with Jose Aldo to before his UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz. During the UFC 196 weigh-ins yesterday, McGregor weighed in at 168 pounds, 2 pounds lower than the 170 pound welterweight cap.
