This past Saturday UFC on FOX 18 went down from the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey. The preliminary card was headlined by Tarec Saffiedine vs. Jake Ellenberger which saw Saffiedine return to the win column and pick up a unanimous decision win.

Luke Rockhold is coming off of a TKO win over Chris Weidman back at UFC 194, and while he currently has no opponent for his first title defense, many are expecting the UFC to give Chris Weidman an immediate rematch for the title. On the main card of UFC 194 Yoel Romero also defeated Jacare Souza to become the #1 contender at middleweight. After the fight however it was revealed that Romero failed a drug test. Given the failed drug test the UFC decided to book Jacare vs. Belfort for a #1 contender fight. This has lead many to assume Weidman will get an immediate rematch.

The world of combat sports is changing for the betterment of fighter safety as the California State Athletic Commission announced on Tuesday the newly placed rules to combat dangerous weight cutting and dehydration. The move comes shortly after the ONC FC promotion announced their implementation of a new weigh-in system. ONE FC has urged fellow MMA promotions Bellator and UFC to adopt the new system.

At a California State Athletic Commission hearing on Tuesday afternoon Ronda Rousey’s head coach Edmond Tarverdyan was suspended for 3 months for falsifying documents. Tarverdyan was also handed a $5,000 fine and given 3 years of probation according to MMAFighting.com, who confirmed the news with CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster.

The heavyweight title picture is shaping up to be a division to focus on again. With Ben Rothwell being the big winner of last Saturdays event. Rothwell moved into the elite Top 5 heavyweights for the first time in his career and it couldn’t of come at a better time. Rothwell is riding a four fight win streak and was the first man to hand Josh Barnett his first defeat via submission. Junior dos Santos, Travis Browne and Josh Barnett all drop spots after the update.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been training hard for his return to the Octagon. Jones was suspended last year from the UFC and stripped of his championship title for legal issues involving a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico back in 2015. Jones has since been reinstated by the UFC and is expected to take on the current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. This will be the second time Jones and Cormier will meet in the Octagon. Jones defeated Cormier back at UFC 182, which took place on January 2, 2015. The rematch will be Jones’ first fight back in the UFC and Cormier will get his chance to avenge his loss and keep the light heavyweight title.

It looks like UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has been involved in a horrendous car accident. The always game fan favorite is scheduled to move up to welterweight and face Tim Means on February 21st at UFC Fight Night 83 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Cerrone posted photos recently to social media of a severely wrecked truck. Obviously, if Cerrone was able to post to his social media, he was not seriously hurt.
