It looks like things are moving forward for our UFC Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn in his return to the Octagon. With BJ training in New Mexico with some of the greatest MMA fighters in the world at the JacksonWink MMA Academy, he is preparing to be his best and revealed some information on his next bout. “The Prodigy” spoke with Kenny Florian and Jon Anik on the Anik and Florian podcast on Monday. Penn revealed to the guys that he has verbally agreed to an opponent for UFC 197 but was not allowed to disclose who it was just yet.

The Warmaster Josh Barnett has been through some of the biggest names in MMA like Big Nog, DC, Cro Cop, Mark hunt and the list goes on. But no one damaged Barnett physically in the octagon, (we would hope) to cause what appears to be his worst injury. A bent penis.

Many of the UFC lightweight fighters were not as welcoming on the idea of Conor McGregor going up a weight class and fighting at 155lbs. Both Rafael dos Anjos and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone said that it was a bad idea for McGregor to move up. UFC welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson on the other hand thinks that going a step further and joining the guys at 170lbs would be a great move for the UFC featherweight champion. Thompson spoke with Submission Radio recently and had nothing but praise for the vocal Irishman (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):

Recently it was announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had pulled out of his UFC 196 main event scrap with Fabricio Werdum as a result of a back injury. Shortly after, it was announced that Stipe Miocic had filled in for Velasquez. Following that announcement Fabricio Werdum withdrew from the bout, leaving UFC 196 without a main event.

No matter how much time passes, actor and martial artist Steven Seagal never fades too far away from the MMA spotlight. When Anderson Silva knocked out Vitor Belfort with a front kick back in 2011, it was Seagal who took credit for teaching Silva the kick. Going into Daniel Cormier’s UFC 182 title fight with Jon Jones, Seagal taught DC some moves to use on Jones.

The New York vs. MMA saga continued today after New York District Court Judge Kimba Wood shot down the UFC’s preliminary injunction to bypass the New York MMA ban and hold Jones vs. Cormier II at the Madison Square Garden. UFC COO Lawrence Epstein released a statement on the matter, which was obtained by MMAMania.
