“This Is Jiu-Jitsu” is a film that’s being supported by members of Renzo Gracie’s NYC Academy. The purpose of the film is to document the history, the stories, and the culture of what makes BJJ what it is worldwide. Think about it there has never been a film like this made since the start of the sport. Jiu-Jitsu is one of the biggest parts of Mixed Martial Arts and a huge reason that the UFC even exists. Just as importantly, it speaks on the the McDojo syndrome that’s become prevalent in the last several years with schools teaching BJJ without having a serious lineage or credentials to support their teaching.

Currently the UFC only features one weight division in regards to women’s MMA, bantamweight, but UFC President Dana White believes it is only a matter of time before they expand: “You would think so,” White stated when asked by mmajunkie.com if he expected to add more women’s divisions to the UFC. “If you think about it, when we started this company, we had heavyweights, light heavyweights, middleweights and welterweights. That was it. When we brought in the 155-pound division, everybody was like, ‘This is crazy. They’re too small. Nobody will ever watch.’

At this weekends TUF 17 Finale, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne (14-1-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) was awarded a win as well as the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for disposing of competitor Gabriel Gonzaga (14-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) via elbows, just 71 seconds into their fight. At least a couple of the blows appear to violate both the no striking to the back of the head rule, and the 12-6 elbow rule. The referee may have ended the fight when the initial, legal elbows landed, and thus the later ones would not count towards a disqualification.
