Potential opponent named for Conor McGregor at UFC 200
Regardless of whether or not Conor McGregor defeats Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 for the UFC lightweight championship, there has been much confusion as to who McGregor would face at UFC 200.
While Jose Aldo was calling for an immediate rematch with McGregor, the UFC promised Frankie Edgar the next shot at the featherweight belt after his TUF 22 finale KO win over Chad Mendes.
Recently, at the UFC 196 press-conference Conor McGregor revealed that he would like to capture the UFC welterweight championship by the end of the year as well.
McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh wrote a post for The 42 in regards to the possibility of McGregor challenging Robbie Lawler for the belt at UFC 200.
“I’ve seen that rumors of Conor fighting Robbie Lawler for the 170-pound belt at UFC 200 on July 9 have been gathering momentum. It’s not something we have discussed specifically but after Conor wins the lightweight belt, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the next fight is for the welterweight belt,”
“If that’s what Conor wants to do, I’ll absolutely support that move. I think that would be fantastic. We’re already talking about making history in a few weeks, but can you imagine what it will be like if Conor is the champion in three weight classes by the summer?”
Top ranked UFC welterweight Gunnar Nelson is a teammate of McGregor’s, which gives ‘Notorious’ an idea of what it would feel like to fight welterweights.
Do you think he’d be able to pull it off
