VIDEO | Former Champ Rafael Dos Anjos Breaks Down his Fight with Tony Ferguson

By Tom Taylor - November 1, 2016

This weekend, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico City, Mexico, former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos will take on the streaking Tony Ferguson. The fight will be Dos Anjos’ first since he surrendered the title to Eddie Alvarez in July, when he wilted under a swarm of first-round punches.

Despite his lopsided loss to Alvarez, Dos Anjos clearly remains one of the finest lightweight competitors in the game. If he’s able to defeat the talented Ferguson, who will enter the fight weight eight-straight wins behind him, he might just earn himself another crack at the division’s coveted title. Depending on the outcome of UFC 205’s main event, that title shot would likely pit him against Alvarez again, or against MMA superstar Conor McGregor, who he was briefly scheduled to fight earlier this year.

In advance of Dos Anjos’ high-stakes showdown in Mexico City, the UFC has shared a video called Fight Night Mexico City: Rafael Dos Anjos – The Road Back to the Title. In this video, the former champion outlines the weeks after his title loss, and offers a quick preview of his bout with Ferguson.

“He’s a guy with eight wins straight,” Dos Anjos said of his upcoming opponent. “It’s not an easy thing to do. He’s a very slick fighter, takes risks and he comes to fight and he is a dangerous guy with a solid ground game. He’s a very unconventional fighter who throws spinning back elbows and knees. He’s going to come wide open and he has no idea what he’s in for. One punch can change the whole thing. I want to go out there and show the world I’m the true champion. It’s going to be a war.”
