Rani Yahya vs. Josh Clopton and Amanda Nunes vs. Sheila Gaff added to UFC 163
Two bouts have been added to the UFC 163 event set for August 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A featherweight bout between Rani Yahya (18-7 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and Josh Clopton (6-1-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was the first announced by UFC officials on Tuesday evening.
The former WEC bantamweight title challenger, Rani Yahya, has gone 3-1 since joining the UFC. He holds octagon victories over Mike Brown, Josh Grispi and Mizuto Hirota.
Clopton, who had a brief stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 14,” got to fight on the show’s live finale even though he was not an official cast member. After a 6-0-1 start to his MMA career, Josh suffered a decision loss to Steven Siler in his UFC debut.
The first female fight in UFC-Brazil history will also take place at UFC 163 officials announced Tuesday. That bout will feature promotional newcomer Amanda Nunes (7-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Sheila Gaff (10-5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
Nunes makes her UFC debut on the heels of two straight victories under the Strikeforce banner. The heavy-handed grappler owns six knockouts in seven career wins.
Meanwhile, Gaff looks to rebound from her UFC debut loss suffered at the hands of Sara McMann at UFC 159. In her 10 career wins, the well-rounded fighter owns six knockouts and four submissions.
UFC 163 takes place August 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main card airs on pay-per-view following the prelims on FX and Facebook.
