Athlete outfitting pay for UFC 206: Holloway takes home $30K for wearing Reebok
Last night, the UFC returned to snow covered Toronto, Ontario Canada for the first time since 2013. They did so with UFC 206, a fight that was short on big names, but long on incredible action.
At the moment, purses for this 12-fight card have not been disclosed. We do, however, know how much the card’s 24 fighters took home through the UFC’s outfitting deal with sports apparel giant Reebok.
Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.
The biggest winner of the UFC’s Toronto return was Hawaii’s Max Holloway, who took home $30,000 for wearing Reebok in his interim featherweight title bid against Anthony Pettis. Because Pettis missed weight for the bout, and therefor lost his chance to win interim gold, he was not paid as a title challenger.
The other big earners of the card were Donald Cerrone and Matt Brown, who battled to a thrilling end in the co-main event, and Cub Swanson, who engaged South Korean prospect Doo Ho Choi in an unforgettable war in the third bout of the main card. All three fighters took home $20,000 for wearing Reebok in their fights.
Seven fighters on the card took home just $2,500, the lowest amount possible under the UFC’s deal with Reebok.
