Dana White gives unfortunate update on Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler rebooking
bjpenndotcom - June 29, 2017
This week, unfortunate news surfaced that UFC veteran Donald Cerrone had been forced out of his scheduled UFC 213 scrap against former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. The news was a big blow to the MMA community, who had been anxiously awaiting the fight since UFC 205, where the fight was initially scheduled to take place. Unfortunately, when the fight was booked for UFC 205 at the end of 2016, it was Lawler who backed out of the fight, revealing that he would like to take more time off after being knocked out by Tyron Woodley at UFC 201, where Lawler lost the welterweight title.

It’s typical to see Donald Cerrone fight about four times a year, being one of the more active fighters in the UFC. We’ve seen Cerrone turn around and fight twice in the Octagon is a span of 15 days back when he fought Myles Jury and former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson back in January 2015. “Cowboy” last fought on January 28, where he lost for the fist time at welterweight in the UFC as Jorge Masvidal ended his four-fight winning streak at 170. With the recent announcement of Cerrone meeting former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in the middle of the Octagon at UFC 213 on July 8, Cerrone says he was forced to take some time off after his TKO loss to Masvidal.

PHOTO | Robbie Lawler links up with WWE star John Cena
Tom Taylor - April 5, 2017
Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler is known for his frenzied and ferocious fighting style. The former champ is also known for an extremely stoic personality outside the cage. He’s quiet. He never talks trash. He rarely smiles. Apparently, however, Lawler is in fact capable of smiling. All it takes to get an ear-to-ear grin out of the welterweight destroyer is an encounter with WWE star John Cena. On Wednesday morning Bellator light heavyweight star Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal shared a photo of Lawler and Cena together, and sure enough, Lawler’s face is painted with a big smile. Who knew such a thing was possible? See King Mo’s photo of Lawler and Cena together – which generated some excitement from MMA reporter Ariel Helwani – below.
Gunnar Nelson still wants 'Wonderboy' fight, but he has a backup plan
Tom Taylor - March 29, 2017
Earlier this month, in the co-main event of the UFC’s latest trip to London, England, Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson stepped onto the canvas with a very game Alan Jouban. Despite the scale of this test, Nelson passed it with flying colors, rattling his foe with a second-round punch, following up with a high-kick, and chasing him to the mat to seal the deal with a choke. With this win, Nelson reminded the world why he is considered one of the best welterweights on the planet. Having done so, he can now look forward to fights with the division’s top dogs – and he has one particular opponent in mind to that end.

This loss marked the end of his short but violent reign as UFC welterweight champion, and though he was briefly scheduled for a UFC 205 scrap with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, he has not been seen in the Octagon since. Given that Lawler is one of the most exciting fighters in MMA, his long absence is undeniably unfortunate.
After months away, Robbie Lawler says he's "back to work"
Tom Taylor - February 28, 2017
Last July, in the main event of UFC 201, Robbie Lawler was knocked out in the very first round of a fight with Tyron Woodley. With this knockout loss, Lawler’s exciting and violent reign as UFC welterweight champion came to a crashing halt. For a moment, it sounded as though the former champion would be getting back on the horse in November, when he was expected to take on fellow fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on the main card of UFC 205 in New York City. Regrettably, Lawler pulled out of this fight just days after it was announced. It is believed that he did so to give himself a bit more time to recover from his concussive loss to Woodley.

One year ago today, Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit engaged in an unforgettable welterweight title fight
Tom Taylor - January 2, 2017
https://twitter.com/ufceurope/status/815856173316349956 When Carlos Condit was scheduled in for a welterweight title shot against Robbie Lawler on January 2 of 2016, there was some debate as to whether or not he actually deserved the opportunity. Though he stood out as a long-time member of the welterweight elite, and as a former champion in the UFC and WEC, he was just one win removed from a loss to Tyron Woodley. As impressive as that win was – it saw him batter Thiago Alves to a doctor stoppage – his recent loss to Woodley left many questioning the legitimacy of his title shot.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is Still Keen on a Fight with Robbie Lawler: It Would Be "a Hell of a Fight"
Tom Taylor - November 7, 2016
This Saturday, on the main card of the universally anticipated UFC 205, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will look to move to 4-0 as a welterweight with a win over highly-regarded contender Kelvin Gastelum. The fight stands out as one of the most anticipated features of the event. Gastelum is not, however, the man Cowboy was originally supposed to face. Instead, Cowboy was initially expected to mix it up with a fellow fan favorite in Robbie Lawler in a fight that seemed like a surefire recipe for ultraviolence. Unfortunately, Lawler was forced to withdraw from this fight just days after it was announced in a grim twist that left fight fans wiping tears from their eyes. The former welterweight champ called Cowboy to break the bad news personally.
