Roland Delorme vs. Edwin Figueroa set for UFC 161 in Winnipeg | UFC News

By Chris Taylor - March 14, 2013

UFC bantamweight Roland Delorme (8-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will be fighting in his hometown this June, as it was announced yesterday that he will meet fellow 135-pounder Edwin Figueroa (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC 161 in Winnipeg.

The bout with Figueroa will mark Delorme’s first fight in 11 months. Roland’s most recent effort came at UFC 149 in July of 2012, where he suffered a KO loss to Francisco Rivera. However, that fight was overturned to a no-contest after Rivera failed his post-fight drug test.

A cast member from season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Delorme started off his octagon career by earning back-to-back victories. In his UFC debut at the “TUF 14 Finale”, Delorme submitted Josh Ferguson with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Roland followed that up by defeating fellow Canadian Nick Denis with a first round submission at the UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs Miller event in May of 2012.

Figueroa will be looking to play spoiler to Delorme’s homecoming and thus put himself back in to the win column. Figueroa most recently suffered a February loss to Francisco Rivera at UFC 156, losing the fight by second round TKO. Prior to that, Edwin was on a 2-fight win streak, which saw him earn vicotires over Alex Caceres and Jason Reinhardt respectively.

UFC 161 takes place June 15 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The main card will be on pay-per-view following the prelims on FX and Facebook. The main event of the evening is an interim bantamweight title fight between interim champ Renan Barao and former WEC champion Eddie Wineland.
