Ben Rothwell on Ronda Rousey: if she can’t bounce back from two losses,”she was never a champion”
Ben Rothwell is known for telling it like it is. If there’s something on the hulking heavyweight’s mind, he tends to say it.
In a recent interview with Sirius XM Fight Club, Rothwell continued his habit of speaking his mind, this time giving his take on Ronda Rousey‘s recent comeback, which was spoiled in just 48 seconds by reigning bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes.
According to Rothwell, Rousey’s legacy will come down to how she responds to this loss, which is her second knockout defeat in a row.
“What’s she going to do now?” Rothwell said. “What matters is six months from now if she walks away from the sport and never fights again, she never has to have her name brought up again. If she can’t come back from everything she’s been through and being put on such a high pedestal and making waves, then she loses two fights and she doesn’t come back from that? Well, then she’s a loser and she never was a champion.”
Rothwell then explained that he believes Rousey would be wise to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor and Dominick Cruz, both of whom have been applauded for the way they handled recent losses.
“Like him or hate him, but Conor McGregor man, what an example. The guy loses, does the media, comes back, wins a fight and then wins a title fight. Dominick Cruz, like him or hate him, he faced the media (after losing his title) and treated it like a champion. They set the bar for the rest of us. That’s how we need to act, that’s how you handle a loss and she needs to learn from the rest of us now.”
