Dana White gives Ronda Rousey update following UFC 207 loss
At UFC 207, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was on the wrong end of an extremely one-sided beatdown from UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
While leading up to the fight, Rousey was the focus of the UFC 207 promo videos, which built up the hype surrounding her already highly anticipated return, it took just 48 seconds for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to steal the spotlight as she picked up arguably the biggest, and most dominant, win of her UFC career.
Following the loss, Rousey took to social media to reveal that she plans to take some time to process the loss before making any decisions about her future. Since then however, there has been radio silence from Ronda Rousey regarding her thoughts on another potential return
During a recent interview on The Herd, UFC President Dana White gave a Ronda Rousey update:
“Ronda and I haven’t talked (about what’s next),” White told “The Herd” today on FS1. “We texted yesterday. Yesterday was the first day that we started texting, and even if it was just a regular fighter … I don’t mess with the fighters for a while. I let them have some time off. Ronda and I will talk soon and we’ll see what she wants to do.”
“Listen, she trained hard for that fight,” White said. “She wanted that fight. She was mentally and physically ready for that fight. But she knows what happened, I don’t.”
“Of all the people that were actually defending Ronda Rousey, one of the biggest ones was (former UFC champ) Miesha Tate,” White said. “Miesha Tate said, ‘Let me tell you what: Say what you want about Ronda Rousey – Amanda Nunes hits like a truck.’ She fought her first. She beat two back-to-back legends.”
On the flip-side of the situation, there has also been no word on who Amanda Nunes plans to fight next.
Stay tuned for updates on both women as they become available.
