Ronda Rousey coach Edmond Tarverdyan settles bankruptcy case
Oft-criticized MMA coach Edmond Tarverdyan has recently been enduring a bit of a rough patch.
In late 2015, his star pupil Ronda Rousey was turned off by a Holly Holm head kick in one of the biggest upsets our sport has ever seen. Rousey’s long-awaited comeback fight, which pitted her against Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207, ended up looking more like a public execution, as she was mauled in just 48 seconds. And then, there’s Travis Browne, Tarverdyan’s next most prominent student. He’s currently on a tough, 2-fight losing streak and could conceivably be cut from the UFC if he comes up short in his next bout. Needless to say, things have not been going well for the infamous coach.
It hasn’t been all bad news for Edmond Tarverdyan, however. Apparently, the Ronda Rousey coach has reached a settlement on the bankruptcy petition with which he generated headlines in 2015. According to Bloody Elbow, the trustee in this bankruptcy case, Jason Rund, has agreed to settle for $160,000.
This whole debacle began in 2015, when Tarverdyan “transferred his interest in G.F.C. Fitness, Inc. (“GFC Fitness”) which owns and operates a fitness facility known as the Glendale Fighting Club in Glendale, California.” At the same time, he claimed a net income of $0.00 (which was suspiciously low for the head coach of MMA’s biggest star).
According to this new settlement, Tarverdyan and his wife Diane Avetisyan have until Jan. 15 to pay the $160,000 in full. If they are unable to do so, Glendale Fighting Club – Rousey’s long-time home – will become community property, and the trustee will have the right to sell it.
According to Bloody Elbow, Rund chose to settle rather than pursue this case as he believes $160,000 is more than he’d received via “prosecuted litigation to resolve the dispute.”
What do you think of coach Edmond Tarverdyan? Do you think Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne would be better off training elsewhere? Sound off, PENN Nation!
