Opening betting odds for Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes
This week it was announced that former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would be returning to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 207 to fight Amanda Nunes for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship on December 30th.
The fight is set to serve as the main event of what is considered the UFC’s New Year’s Eve card, and will also serve as Rousey’s highly anticipated return to the Octagon over a year after her devastating KO loss at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193, where she lost the UFC women’s bantamweight championship.
Rousey, who has been absent from the Octagon since the loss, has filmed several movies in Hollywood, with the date for her UFC return consistently pushed back as her work-load continued to grow in Hollywood. Despite that, fans were put on notice when Rousey’s head coach Edmond Tarverdyan stated in an interview last month that Rousey could very well return to the Octagon by the end of the year.
Not long after Tarverdyan’s interview, it was officially announced by UFC President Dana White that Rousey would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 207.
With her fight against Amanda Nunes made official, the opening betting odds were released for the highly anticipated scrap. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto took to Twitter to release them:
Las Vegas Westgate Super Book prepared to open action on Rousey -210, Nunes +180 this morning.
— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) October 13, 2016
As you can see above, Rousey is currently the -210 favorite over Nunes, who is the +180 underdog. To simplify these numbers, it would take a $210 bet on Rousey, the favorite, to potentially win $100. On the flip side, a $100 bet on Nunes, the underdog, would potentially earn you $180.
Nunes has been on a tear of the women’s bantamweight division lately, going on a 4-fight win streak over the course of the last two years that has seen her TKO Shayna Baszler, submit Sara McMann, defeat Valentina Shevchenko via unanimous decision, and most recently submit Miesha Tate to claim the women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 200.
