With just over 24 hours to go until former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returns to the Octagon at UFC 207, the champ is giving combat sports fans one last reason to “fear the return”. Rousey took to social media to post a side-by-side photo of herself from UFC 184, where she fought and defeated Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds, and herself from just 5 days before her UFC 207 return against Amanda Nunes.

Dana White explains why Ronda Rousey was given pass on media obligations

bjpenndotcom - December 28, 2016

Leading up to UFC 207, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been the focus of the promotions efforts to promote the fight, using Rousey as the focus of their TV ads. With that being said, Rousey has been given an exemption from her usual media obligations leading up to the fight, and has not spoken to the media or been a regular part of the UFC Embedded series leading up to the fight. Because of that, many have criticized not only Rousey for skipping out on her media duties, but also the UFC for the fact that UFC superstar Conor McGregor was pulled from his scheduled UFC 200 fight with Nate Diaz because he refused to attend a press conference.

bjpenndotcom - December 28, 2016

Leading up to UFC 207, much of the UFC’s promotion for the event has surrounded the highly anticipated return of Ronda Rousey, who will step back into the Octagon over a year after horrifically being knocked out cold by Holly Holm at UFC 193, where she lost the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. In addition to Rousey being the focus of the promotion for the event, she has been exempt from all media-related duties leading up to the fight. This hasn’t gone over too well with many fans, who have been quick to point out that the UFC gave Rousey a pass on media related events, while just months prior they pulled Conor McGregor from UFC 200 for refusing to fulfill his media obligations ahead of what was supposed to be his rematch with Nate Diaz.

In November of 2015, dominant women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey stepped onto the canvas with a widely unheralded challenger in Holly Holm. Though Rousey was expected by most to blow through her challenger, she was ultimately turned off by a second round head kick in one of the biggest upsets in the history of our sport. She has not been seen in the Octagon since.

Ahead of Rousey’s return to the Octagon on December 30th, where she will look to reclaim the UFC women’s bantamweight championship by defeating Amanda Nunes, Nate Diaz recalled a time when he was nearly submitted by ‘Rowdy’.

Amanda Nunes: UFC trying to 'make it easier' for Ronda Rousey with one-sided UFC 207 promos

Tom Taylor - December 23, 2016

During a Thursday evening interview with Fox Sports’ Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes touched on the clear favoritism for her opponent Ronda Rousey in the promos for their UFC 207 fight. During a Friday morning media scrum in LA, the women’s bantamweight queen elaborated on the inherent Rousey focus in these UFC 207 promos. In her opinion, the UFC is using these one-sided promos to help Rousey rebuild her confidence after her famous 2015 knockout loss to Holly Holm.

Amanda Nunes: 'I expect the best Ronda but I don’t know what’s wrong with her'

Russell Ess - December 23, 2016

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes says she has been training her entire career for a fight against Ronda Rousey. Rousey, the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion helped put women’s mixed martial arts on the map, opening the eyes to many new fans of the sport but hit an abrupt bump in the road in November of 2015 when she took the first loss of her professional MMA career. Rousey was defeated by Holly Holm in a devastating knockout loss and has been out of competition for over a year.

She will do so against former champion Ronda Rousey, who has not been seen in action since she was knocked out by a Holly Holm head kick in November of 2015. In advance of this fight, fans, pundits and fellow fighters are divided on who they think will come out on top. Some picture Rousey reclaiming the throne with a vintage victory. Others imagine Nunes mauling the long absent Rousey to retain the title. Others are unwilling to make a prediction one way or the other.

Holly Holm discusses possible rematch with Ronda Rousey

Tom Taylor - December 20, 2016

In November of last year, Holly Holm shocked the world by ending the seemingly unshakeable reign of long-time women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. She did so with a highlight reel, second-round head-kick knockout. It was far and away the biggest moment of her career. Unfortunately, things have not gone well for Holm since then. In her first defense as champion, she gave up an early lead to surrender to a fifth-round rear-naked choke applied by Miesha Tate. In her next bout thereafter, Holm failed to get back on track, giving up a unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko in a fairly forgettable fight. These two losses have deflated most of the mystique she gained by knocking out Rousey.
