Ronda Rousey was reportedly on weight for UFC 207 days ago
Today, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will step onto the scale to weigh-in for her highly anticipated UFC 207 scrap with Amanda Nunes on Friday night. While most fighters have to do the remainder of their weight-cut during fight week, UFC President Dana White says that Rousey was already on weight days ago.
He spoke on Good Day, New York:
“Ronda’s very focused,” White said. “She’s on weight already, she weighs 135 pounds already — (co-host Rosanna Scotto asks if that’s good or not) — that’s very good.
“Usually people come in almost 10 pounds over and they cut the weight the day before the weigh-ins. Ronda’s already at 135 pounds. So she’s taking this so serious [sic], she’s in great shape.”
Cutting weight is generally one of the most stressful parts of fight week. With Rousey already on weight, this could very well be an advantage for the former champ going into her return fight.
Rousey of course has been absent from the Octagon for over a year. After being KOd by Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 193 back in November of 2015, Rousey took a year off from the Octagon to not only take care of some injuries, but also refocus for her UFC return.
Leading up to the fight, Ronda Rousey has received quite a bit of criticism for being given an exemption from media related duties. As Rousey explained in a recent interview, she can’t help but notice the criticism she receives:
“I hear so many of the worst things anyone could ever even imagine to say about me every single day,” Rousey said. “Thousands of times people are trying to reach me and say these negative things. … People like to see people rise because they want to see people fall because they want to feel like they’re human like they are. That’s why we have this cycle of raise people up, and then we crash down.”
