Rory MacDonald Confident Georges St-Pierre is Far From Done Fighting

When Georges St-Pierre was set to appear on The MMA Hour, we all thought we may have an announcement about his next fight. Instead, the two-division champion looked down a long list of possible huge opponents and didn’t really seem too thrilled with any of them. While he may not know his exact plan of attack on his return, Rory MacDonald believes St-Pierre’s career is far from over.

“Even if [Georges St-Pierre] lost five in a row, still I don’t think it would taint what he’s done. He’s done some of the most amazing stuff in the sport so far, so I’m really happy for him. If he feels he has more left in the tank, then I think absolutely he should get in there and do his thing. I don’t think any top fighter like that should feel like he left the game early.”

“Chael Sonnen said it well: A lot of champions leave face down and on the mat. That’s an admirable way to look at it. That’s usually when you know when you’re done, when your time if over in the sport. Clearly that isn’t the case for Georges right now. He’s far from that stage. I’ve always said he’s done some amazing things in the sport. I thought he did great in his comeback. The performance was one of his best. He finishes Michael Bisping. I think he did a great job. I’m really happy for him.” — Rory MacDonald speaking to MMA Junkie.

Chael Sonnen believes that Georges St-Pierre is not done either, and that the only fight to make is against Conor McGregor at 165-pounds. Meanwhile, Ben Askren is still campaigning for the fight. Who knows what St-Pierre will eventually decide, but not only does he have the leverage to wait, but also the economic security and the legacy to decide not to fight again at all.
