Friday evening, former top ranked UFC middleweight Rousimar Palhares stepped into the cage in Poland to square off with Michal Materla.

Palhares, who was looking to bounce back from his KO loss to Emil Weber Meek back in May for the Venator welterweight championship, faced a tough test in fellow submission specialist Michal Materla, who was going into the fight with a 24-5 professional record that most recently saw him TKO Antoni Chmielewski back in May.

When the two stepped into the cage in Poland, Materla left the world stunned as he knocked Palhares out cold in the second round.

Palhares has faced quite a bit of criticism the last several years. After returning from a 9 month suspension in 2013, Palhares controversially submitted Mike Pierce, and held onto the submission after his opponent tapped out.

The UFC released Palhares because of the incident, and he was quickly scooped up by WSOF. In his WSOF debut, Palhares submitted Steve Carl, to win the WSOF welterweight championship. Palhares then went on to defeat former UFC veteran Jon Fitch at WSOF 16. In just his second title defense, Palhares submitted fellow submission ace Jake Shields. After Shields tapped out to a kimura, Palhares held onto the submission, and was subsequently stripped of the WSOF belt, released from WSOF, and suspended for two years.

As a result, Palhares headed overseas to compete in Venator FC, where he was knocked out in just 45 seconds by Emil Weber Meek.
