Dana White sounded off on Roy Nelson’s post-fight kick to referee John McCarthy on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, and he certainly did not mince words.

The UFC president repeated that he felt ‘Big Country’ should “be buried” for his actions following his second round knockout win over Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in Brazil over the weekend.

“You cant apologize for that. you don’t ever put your f******* hands or feet on a referee for any reason whatsoever. you don’t do it. he needs to be buried. You want to flip a referee off (that’s one thing), but there is never, ever a situation where you put your hands on a referee.”

“We’ll see how the athletic commission handles that, but he needs to be buried.”

“If the Brazilian Athletic Commission doesn’t reign on him, it won’t be good. I don’t care what the circumstances are. We don’t always agree with him. We have our favorites, or least favorites, Mazzagatti.

“Whatever you feel about him, they’re there for your protection.” John McCarthy is very qualified and has been here a lot longer than Roy Nelson has been. The referee is there checking on ‘Bigfoot’ and you go and f******* kick him?”

“He just pretended it didn’t happen at all. Referees should never really talk to the media.”

White discussed the controversial kick with Matt Serra on the podcast, who added some background as to the ongoing ‘bad blood’ between Roy Nelson and referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy.

“I think there was bad blood already there,” Serra said. “Remember in his fight with Derrick Lewis? He and Big John were going at it mid-fight. he told him to shut up. He got upset over some of the break-ups. Backstage big john instruction, they got into an argument there and Big John told Roy to shut up.”

UFC Fight Night brasilia

‘Bigfoot’ and ‘Big Country’ are actually friends outside of the cage, with Silva saying he will take his “brother Roy Nelson out for barbeque after UFC Brasilia.”

Nelson felt as if the fight should have been stopped sooner after ‘Big Country’ collapsed ‘Bigfoot’ with a massive uppercut. Referee John McCarthy waited until Nelson dropped some serious ground-and-pound before stopping the fight, which aggravated ‘Big Country’ to the point of kicking McCarthy moments after the fight ended.
