Roy Nelson wants to “be the Donald Cerrone of the heavyweight division”
While Roy Nelson is currently slated to fight Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis on July 7th in a co-main event scrap, Nelson can’t help but wish he could fight more frequently.
After a 12 year professional career, and 16 fights under the UFC banner at the age of 40, Nelson is one of the most recognizable heavyweights on the UFC roster.
He spoke to MMAJunkie to explain that if he got his way, he would be fighting every other month:
“Me personally, if I could fight every other month, that’d be great. I’d be the Donald Cerrone of the heavyweight division. But they don’t allow me to fight like that.”
Nelson is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jared Rosholt back in February. The win snapped Nelson’s 3-fight losing streak. On July 7th, he will look to build on the win over Rosholt and defeat Lewis.
