“Rumble” Promises to Come Back Strong & Make Another Title Run
Anthony “Rumble” Johnson came up short of winning the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on Saturday when he got finished by Daniel Cormier in the second round. Johnson was able to knock Cormier down with a big shot in the first round, but Cormier quickly recovered and grappled his way to victory.
During the UFC 187 post fight press conference, Johnson promised that he would come back and fight for the title again. “My goal is still to be champion one day. I was on a nine-fight win-streak and Daniel just defeated me. But I promise I’ll be back,” Johnson said. “I don’t care who I have to fight, when I have to fight them or where I have to fight them. I will be back and whoever’s there, hey, let’s do it.”
Johnson was riding a wave of momentum into Saturday night, defeating the likes of Alexander Gustafsson, Antônio Rogerio Nogueira and Phil Davis to earn a shot at the gold. Johnson utilized his power to bring home the victories, but he was outwrestled on Saturday.
“I can’t lie, he wrestled the hell out of me tonight,” Johnson said. “Daniel did an awesome job. He definitely made me carry his weight and he’s heavy as hell. It wasn’t an adrenaline dump. This mother f****r is heavy.”
