Back in January, Sage Northcutt squared off against Bryan Barbarena, who stepped in on short notice. Northcutt lost the bout, being submitted via Von Flue Choke in the 2nd round, putting an end to his undefeated streak. Now, ahead of his UFC 200 fight against Enrique Marin in less than two weeks, Northcutt believes that his loss to Barberena was merely a fluke.

Grad left the training session with Northcutt quite disappointed and had a lot of criticism for Northcutt’s father and his coaching.

Grad’s recollection of the situation was far from good, as he called out Northcutt’s father for interfering with their training. While video footage of the sparring session in question has since surfaced, Northcutt and his father have remained silent regarding the situation, until now that is.

Sage Northcutt is set to fight at UFC 200 against Enrique Marin. Northcutt will step into the Octagon for the first time since being handed his only professional loss, where he was submitted by Bryan Barberena back in January. Israeli Muay Thai champion Ilya Grad was brought in to help train with Northcutt for his UFC 200 bout, but left in disgust after Northcutt’s father apparently interfered with their training.

“Super” Sage Northcutt (7-1 MMA) will return to the octagon at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event in Las Vegas when he squares off with Enrique “Wasabi” Marin (8-3 MMA) in a lightweight tilt. Northcutt will be looking to rebound from his first career mixed martial arts setback, which he suffered via submission to short-notice replacement Bryan Barberena at January’s UFC on FOX 18 event.
