Former UFC heavyweight Sean McCorkle (17-7 MMA) was a guest on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour,” where he announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts.

McCorkle had lost five of his past six outings and cited herniated discs as a cause for retirement:

“Believe it or not, despite my current streak, I’m actually going to be stepping down from being a fighter,” he told host Ariel Helwani. “It’s probably one of the worst professions of all time. Yeah, I’m going to be retiring from MMA, not that anyone cares because I’ve only fought once in the last year.”

McCorkle’s most notable octagon win came over current UFC heavyweight contender Mark Hunt, who he submitted in the first-round of their bout at UFC 119.
