Stephen Thompson: “I know I can knock Robbie Lawler out”
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson put the welterweight division on notice earlier this month when he picked up a unanimous decision win over Rory MacDonald in Ottawa, Canada.
The win was an extremely impressive one for Thompson, who picked apart MacDonald, stuffed several takedowns, and fought out of a few submissions, over the course of the fight.
Now, Thompson is in a position to fight the winner of UFC 201‘s welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley. That fight goes down July 30th, and the way Thompson sees it, he’s already ready to claim the belt from the winner.
He spoke to Fox Sports:
“I know I can knock Robbie Lawler out. He’s going to move forward and he’s going to end up walking into something.”
“I think I am the better striker. He’s the type of guy that stands in front of you, he’s very, very tough. I believe he’s slower than Rory MacDonald. I believe I’m faster than him. The speed is going to be tough for him, and I think the angles are going to be tough for him. But he’s a champion, he’s going to be coming with his ‘A’ game. I need to be ready for the best Robbie Lawler in the world.”
