Stephen Thompson replies to Jorge Masvidal callout
Could a Stephen Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal fight be in the cards?
Last weekend, on the main card of the stacked UFC 211, Jorge Masvidal took on Demian Maia in what looked like a welterweight number one contender fight. Though Masvidal was the sharper man on the feet, he fell victim to Maia’s legendary grappling skill, succumbing to four takedowns and giving up almost eight minutes of control time on the mat. And while there were some members of the MMA community that believed he’d done enough to eke out the win, the judges ultimately sided with Maia by split decision.
Having come up short in this perceived number one contender bout, one might expect Masvidal to take a bit of time off and reassess. Yet this is not the way he operates. Instead, he is already making moves to secure his next fight. On Monday afternoon, Masvidal made callouts of several of his ranked welterweight peers. Though his first victim was Neil Magny, he quickly shifted his focus to recent welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Just got word @NeilMagny is suffering from vaginitis. @WonderboyMMA where you at? #EasyMoney

It did not take long for Wonderboy to respond to Masvidal callout, and apparently, he’s all for this prospective scrap. He just needs to heal up from knee surgery.
Hey man would love to fight you after I heal up from knee surgery my friend

“Hey man, I would love to fight you after I heal up from knee surgery my friend,” Wonderboy told Masvidal on Twitter.
So, there you have it. Provided he’s up for waiting a few weeks while Wonderboy heals up, Masvidal has already set up his next fight, just days removed from his competitive loss to Maia.
With his loss to Maia, Masvidal had a three-fight streak snapped. This streak was composed of defeats of Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Wonderboy, meanwhile, was last seen in action in March, when he gave up a decision to champ Tyron Woodley. This loss occurred in a rematch of a controversial November draw.
Who do you think would win a Jorge Masvidal vs. Stephen Thompson fight?
