Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson predicts a potential Ronda Rousey vs. ‘Cyborg’ showdown
For years, there have been debates and discussions about a Ronda Rousey vs. Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino super-fight. While the two women fight at different weight classes, that hasn’t curbed the enthusiasm for such a showdown between two of the best female fighters to ever step foot into the octagon.
Former woman’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey hasn’t fought since a devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm back at UFC 193 in November 2015, while ‘Cyborg’ (16-1) has now won two UFC fights in a row by TKO.
Welterweight contender and UFC on FOX analyst Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson weighed in on how a fight between Rousey and ‘Cyborg’ would go down:
“For me, Cyborg’s been busy, she hasn’t stopped. Ronda had a bit of break, we don’t know where her head’s at after that loss (to Holly Holm),” ‘Wonderboy’ told TMZ Sports. “We know she’s a fighter, but I take Cyborg, man.”
“She’s very strong man. Very hard to take down. Have you seen her? She’s almost as big as I am. She’s a monster. I think she will be very hard to take down, which is Ronda’s game, where she wants to take (the fight). And her striking is better than Ronda’s.”
Rousey is rumored to be fighting current woman’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes at UFC 207.
Meanwhile, ‘Cyborg’ just beat Lena Lansberg in Brazil on Saturday night by TKO in the second round. Before the Lansberg victory, ‘Cyborg’ ran through Leslie Smith an a little over a minute into the first round. Both fights were contested at a 140-pound catch weight, but ‘Cyborg’ usually competes at 145 pound, a weight class that does not exist for women in the UFC.
