Stephen Thompson vs. Tyron Woodley

Tonight in Las Vegas, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and UFC welterweight #1 contender Stephen Thompson will step into the Octagon for the second time as they compete for Woodley’s welterweight strap.

In the pair’s first meeting, Woodley retained his welterweight title for the first tie after the judges scored the fight a majority draw. While Woodley was eyeing a middleweight superfight with middleweight champion Michael Bisping, the UFC ultimately moved forward with a rematch between the pair.

Interestingly enough, the Vegas odds have the champ as the underdog, despite the fact that he is the reigning defending UFC welterweight champion. At the present time, Bovada has the betting odds at -140 for Stephen Thompson, and +110 for the champion Tyron Woodley. In other words, it would take a $140 bet on Thompson to win $100, whereas a $100 bet on Woodley would potentially earn you $110 if he wins.

In the video above, you can see the EA Sports UFC 2 simulation for how the fight will play out.

The prediction video above was likely impacted largely by the 4th round of the pair’s UFC 205 fight, where Woodley knocked Thompson down and nearly had him finished for the majority of the round.

While the champ will of course bring the same power into the Octagon for rounds 6-10 tonight, Thompson has vowed to step into the Octagon stronger than he did in the first fight:

Stephen Thompson

“Last time I was walking around at about 182 (pounds). I’m up to 190 (pounds) and I’m trying to stay about right there. I am not trying to get over that (190-pounds). It is still a dramatic cut. But, I have done it before. I have done it in the past. So I know I can do it. I am feeling stronger and I am feeling faster than ever man.”
