Brenden Schaub: Stipe Miocic is almost impossible to submit

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is fresh off his UFC 203 TKO win over Alistair Overeem earlier this month in Cleveland, Ohio.

The win marked the first title defense for the Ohio native, who won the heavyweight championship earlier this year when he knocked MMA legend Fabricio Werdum out cold.

In the first round of his UFC 203 scrap with Overeem, Miocic was dropped with a right-hand from ‘The Reem’ who then sought to finish the fight with a guillotine choke. Miocic was able to escape, and ultimately retain his belt.

On a recent episode of The Fighter & The Kid with former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen, Schaub explained how difficult it is for someone to actually submit Miocic.

“He (Overeem) should have almost – wrestler – seatbelt, and punched away, and he would have been heavyweight champion of the world. Instead he went for that guillotine, and trust me, Stipe – we’ve trained together many times. Literally impossible to submit. Literally impossible to submit. We had black belts and he just – he’s like Rashad Evans – Rashad Evans, his offensive Jiu-Jitsu like off his back isn’t great. He’s gonna get the f**k up, good luck holding him down. But, if you ask him to do a gogoplata, or a half guard sweep…not really. No [you’re not submitting him], he’s too smart, he has a great base from wrestling, he’s strong, smart, and you’re not submitting that guy.”

Miocic, who is 18-2 over the course of his professional MMA career, has never been knocked out. His first loss came at the hands of Stefan Struve in 2012, who TKOd Miocic. His second loss came at the hands of Junior dos Santos in 2014 via unanimous decision.
