Stipe Miocic Discusses Possible Jon Jones Fight: We’ll Have a Great Fight, I Think
Despite the many controversies that have marred his recent career, Jon Jones remains the greatest light heavyweight of all time. However you feel about him as person, his accolades as a fighter really can’t be denied.
Given Jones’ status as the light heavyweight GOAT, people tend to get excited when he talks about moving up to heavyweight. Jones has mentioned a possible heavyweight jump several times in the past, and did so again in the wake of Stipe Miocic’s epic heavyweight title defense earlier this month.
I'm starting to realize the hype is real with that guy. He's legit, I would be the challenge of a lifetime https://t.co/ybke2pAtAC

Given Jones’ mention of a heavyweight title fight with Miocic, Miocic has recently fielded many questions about the possibility. Some of these recent questioned were asked on the latest episode of Australia’s Submission Radio.
“It doesn’t bother me, honestly,” Miocic said of the possibility of a fight with Jones. “Whoever you want me to fight, I’ll fight. Listen, I’m the champ and I’m not going to pick and choose who I fight. Whoever they want me to fight, I’m going to fight. So I really don’t care.”
In an era when many champions want “money fights,” and nothing else, Miocic’s willingness to fight anybody is certainly refreshing. He did agree with the shows hosts, however, that because Jones has never fought at heavyweight before, he should maybe take a tune up fight in the division before fighting for gold.
“I mean there is a lot of ways you can look at it,” Miocic said. “I’m not good at [this] stuff. Like, if I was a matchmaker, I wouldn’t be fighting. So I’m just a fighter and they tell me who I’m gonna fight. That’s all I worry about.”
At the end of the day, however, Miocic believes a fight with Jones would be a fun one. He also feels that his being called out by Jones shows that he’s doing something right as a fighter.
“We’ll have a great fight I think,” the heavyweight champion said. “It shows that I’m doing something right if [Jones] want to fight me.”
Of course, any possible Miocic vs. Jones bout will depend on the punishment Jones receives for his recent PED-related issues. It’s also worth noting that, if Jones is allowed to return to competition any time soon, it’ll probably be against reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, or streaking contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Needless to say, he’s got plenty to deal with before a heavyweight title shot is discussed.
How do you think a Jones vs. Miocic heavyweight fight would go? Sound off, PENN nation!
