Stipe Miocic explains why Junior dos Santos rematch will be different

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is currently gearing up for his upcoming title defense against Junior dos Santos this Saturday at UFC 211, where he is hoping to avenge his December 2014 loss to Dos Santos that saw his 3-fight winning streak end. Now, with Miocic reigning as the heavyweight champion, he is looking to pick up his second straight title defense, which would tie him for the most heavyweight title defenses.

Ahead of his rematch with Dos Santos, Stipe Miocic spoke on the UFC 211 media conference call to explain what will be different about this fight with JDS, and why he will be the longest reigning heavyweight champion:

“I don’t really care about how many defenses I have; all I care about is winning,” Miocic said on today’s UFC 211 media conference call. “I love what I do. I’m going to keep winning. I train way too hard and sacrifice way too much to give it up. I’m just different. I get better every fight. I’m improving every fight and nothing is going to change.”

“I see what I did wrong in the fight,” Miocic said. “I did a lot of things wrong. It was my first five-round fight. Me and my coaches watched over that film to see what he did wrong, what I did wrong and what I did well and what he did wrong. We went over a lot of stuff, and we definitely have a better game plan in this fight.”

While Miocic will be riding a 4-fight win streak into his fight with Dos Santos, which has seen him KO his last four opponents, Dos Santos will be entering into the fight on a win, which was followed by a year-long hiatus from the former champ.
