Stipe Miocic trashes Brock Lesnar “s**t show,” demands immediate rematch with Daniel Cormier
Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 226, Stipe Miocic’s reign as the UFC’s most dominant heavyweight champion came to a skittering halt, as he was put down by a thunderous first-round punch from Daniel Cormier.
In the ensuing fallout of this title loss, Miocic planned to ask for an immediate rematch with Cormier. This, after all is, is an opportunity that many dominant UFC champions have been awarded in the past. See Anderson Silva, Ronda Rousey, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, etc.
Unfortunately, Miocic’s plans to ask for a rematch were promptly derailed, as Daniel Cormier called out Brock Lesnar, Lesnar stormed the cage, and all hell broke loose.
Unsurprisingly, Miocic was not pleased about the way things went down in the moments after his title loss.
“It was a shit show and it was disrespectful,” Miocic told ESPN of Lesnar’s UFC 226 appearance. “I didn’t think that was what the UFC was all about.”
Lesnar, to remind, has not fought since 2016, when he defeated Mark Hunt in a fight that was almost immediately ruled a no contest due to his failing a drug test. Lesnar’s last legitimate win, meanwhile, occurred in 2010, when he weathered an early storm to submit Shane Carwin.
Like many fans, Miocic feels that Lesnar shouldn’t be anywhere near a heavyweight title shot in the year 2018.
“I thought they were going to interview me [after the fight] and I was going to ask for a rematch,” Miocic said. “When Brock came in, I said, ‘I’m out of here, I don’t need this circus.’ How can you give a guy a title shot who hasn’t fought in over two years, is suspended, and his last fight is a no-contest because he was taking PEDs?”
To summarize, Stipe Miocic feels Lesnar’s receiving a title shot is an atrocity. At the same time, he feels that, as the most dominant champion in UFC history, he deserves an immediate rematch with Cormier.
“I want a title shot. I deserve it,” Miocic said. “[Lesnar] hasn’t fought in how long? For him to get a title shot, as I get thrown to the side? It just seems like they are desperate for pay-per-views.
“I cleaned out the division. I defended it more than anyone, and you’re gonna tell me I don’t deserve a chance to get it back? Get out of here. Kiss my ass if you don’t think I deserve that.”
Miocic, who is clearly unhappy with the state of the division he ruled so recently, says he spoke briefly with UFC President Dana White post-fight. He says White apologized for the way thinks unfolded, but that the UFC President’s apology didn’t hold a lot of water.
“It was like a two-second conversation, he apologized for everything that happened in the cage,” Miocic said. “I just said, ‘Whatever.’ The apology didn’t mean anything. That’s what they want to happen.”
