Tito Ortiz gives date for potential Chael Sonnen fight: ‘I call the shots’

Earlier this month, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen announced that he was coming out of retirement, and had signed an exclusive, multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA.

While Sonnen remained adamant throughout the course of his 2-year suspension that he was indeed retired from MMA, it took just over one month from the time his suspension ended, for ‘The American Gangster’ to sign with Bellator MMA.

Upon announcing his signing with the promotion, Sonnen revealed that he would be open to fighting at any weight class, and that he already had his sights set on former UFC champion Tito Ortiz, a man he already defeated in the wrestling world.

While no date was given for a potential fight between the pair, Sonnen later called Ortiz out for a fight on November 2nd. Something that didn’t sit too well with Ortiz.

He fired back during an interview with fiveouncesofpain:

“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, hold on a second. Chael calling me out on November 2nd? I’m the one who calls the shots, not him! We’ll fight in January. We’re not going to fight in November. I’m gonna give him some time to get used to being at his weight, off of steroids, so he can train through that time. November 17th is not happening. I’m calling the shots, not Chael Sonnen. Yeah he talks well, yeah he does his thing, but no, this is my weight class. I’m the one who calls the shots. Tito Ortiz is gonna call the shots. Chael Sonnen is going to have to wait until after the first of the year, because I’ve actually got a big fishing tournament to do. I’m gonna go win a few million to get back into camp, train and finish it up and let’s get this fight done in January. That’s what I’m calling.”

While Ortiz isn’t too keen on a November 2nd fight with Sonnen. He explained why he wants the pair to fight in January.
