Cody Garbrandt argues that TJ DIllashaw regrets leaving Team Alpha Male

By Tom Taylor - October 26, 2017

UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and top contender TJ Dillashaw, who will battle in the co-main event of UFC 217 this November 4, share one of the most sizzling beefs in MMA. This beef began when Dillashaw left Team Alpha Male, where Garbrandt still trains, to pursue other opportunities.

In the opinion of Garbrandt, this is a move Dillashaw likely regrets every day.

“He regrets it every day of his life,” Garbrandt said on Wednesday’s UFC 217’s media conference call (h/t MMAFighting.com). “But his ego won’t let him admit that. Let’s be honest, TJ.”

“All my teammates [at Team Alpha Male], they built T.J up to where he’s at,” Garbrandt continued. “They know TJ like the back of his hand. They got me ready for Dominick Cruz, they went countless hours, 27 rounds with Dominick Cruz, so they knew him, they taught TJ. everything. I had Justin Buchholz in this camp the whole camp the last year preparing for TJ, getting ready for this guy, and Justin taught him how to throw a punch, so I’m extremely confident when I get in there.”

While Dillashaw didn’t agree with Garbrandt, he did admit that his career hasn’t gone quite the way he envisioned.

“It’s definitely not how I [foresaw] it going down,” Dillashaw said. “But, it all worked out for the reasons that it did and I’m going to make the most of it.”

From Team Alpha Male, Dillashaw migrated to Colorado, where he trained at the new Elevation training facility. Now, he’s sharpening his tools alongside Cub Swanson in Southern California, where he hopes to start his own gym.
